Fly Fishery Rules

Only use flies with a single hook and less than three inches. You can use droppers, but no snakes, doubles, or spinners.

The new catch and return policy makes it easier for anglers to choose their fish. You cannot transfer tickets, and you cannot share fish. Adults can share a rod with a child under 12.

Please let us know first before fishing with catch and release. Before leaving, the staff must clean all the trash, like old fishing lines and cigarette butts.

They should also discard any fish that they consider too small to kill. Please put it in the bin. Don’t cut any plants.

Unhook the fish in the landing net. Wait for the fish to stop moving. Ideally, unhook the fish in the water. If not possible, place the fish on the grass.

Use forceps to carefully unhook the fish without removing it from the net. Finally, place the fish back in the water.

Let the fish cycle water through its gills and gently agitate the net to keep the fish upright. Release the fish when it is strong enough.

Fly Fishing Tuition

You can learn fly fishing here with taster lessons or full-day trips. It can also reserve a lake just for your group of six or more anglers.

Taster Sessions

During a taster session, you will get an overview and learn about tackles, methods, and casting. You will spend about two hours on this activity.

After that, you can freely practice your skills on the lakes for the rest of the day. The cost is only £75 per person with equipment hire, tuition, and two fish tickets.

Fly Casting and Instruction

At Hollies, we offer guided fishing trips for anglers of all skill levels. You can fish in reservoirs like Chew, Clatworthy, Wimbleball, Kennick, or rivers.

It can show you how to use drogues and follow the specific rules and techniques. The cost is either £25 per hour or a daily rate of £120.

Fly Tying

Many anglers want to become better at fly fishing by learning fly tying. It can help with that by providing an introduction.

The tuition fee is £70 for a half-day session. It covers the essential skills to learn common patterns.
