A family created Birch House Lakes 30 years ago and runs it. This site offers ten fishing lakes across 15 acres of water in a picturesque area of Derbyshire.

Brailsford and Ednaston are the locations of the fishery. It covers 25 acres of beautiful scenery, with Brailsford Brook flowing through it.

Kingfisher

Kingfisher is the most popular water reservoir near the Lodge. The lake is about 2 acres in size and has 35 fishing spots. It has a variety of fish suitable for all fishing styles.

At each end of the lake, Kingfisher is shallow with 4 feet of water and lots of water lilies. There is a ledge around the entire lake, and the banks slope to a depth of 6.5 to 7 feet.

The biggest fish in the water are common and mirror carp, weighing up to 34 lbs. These carp usually range from 5 lbs to 14 lbs, with many weighing around 20 lbs.

The mirror carp are like the commons. While fishing for silverfish, anglers can catch roach and rudd weighing 12 ounces to 2 pounds.

They can also catch perch weighing 2 ounces to 3 pounds and bream weighing up to 8 pounds. Pole anglers usually fish 8 to 10 meters out.

They use elastic between 10 and 20, a line that can break at 6 pounds, a 4-pound bottom length, and size 12 to 18 hooks.

Waggler anglers also use similar weight tactics. The most popular baits on Kingfisher are small pellets, luncheon meat, and sweetcorn.

Maggots and casters work well, but they can attract small fish, which is bothersome. But once you catch the bigger fish, it’s worth it.

Horseshoe of The Birch House Lakes

They built the lake in 2006 and opened it in 2007. It has islands of lily pads and a unique shape. The new concrete pegs line the lake, spaced 10 meters apart.

The banks slope down at a 45-degree angle to the bottom. It is 6 to 12 feet deep. The horseshoe lake has 35 pegs. The carp in it weighs between 6oz and 22 lbs.

It also has F1 hybrids, weighing up to 1lb 8oz. Sometimes, anglers catch fish weighing between 300lbs and 400lbs.

At Brailsford Fishery, people often fish in the middle of the lake. Many of them use a 12-meter pole.

Buzzard

Buzzard is an ideal fishing spot with a 3/4 acre size and 20 pegs. In 2011, they stocked it, opened it for fishing in 2012, and re-stocked it in 2020 to boost the fish population.

The lake has a mirror and F1 carp weighing between 4oz and 3 lbs. It also has roach and rudd around 8oz. Most of the fish are carp, with some weighing up to 15lbs.

Buzzard is a good place for anglers who fish with a pole. The water has sloping banks and an average depth of 6 to 7 feet.

In some areas, it goes as deep as 9 feet. The fish in Buzzard are small, so they eat anything they find, like sweetcorn and worms.

At Buzzard, anglers measure catches by the number of fish, not their weight. Feed little and often to attract and keep fish in your swim.

Dove

They built the Dove in 2016 and extended it in 2019. They restocked it in 2020. The lake is now 1 acre in size.

The location is opposite the Buzzard and next to the Horseshoe. The Dove has a depth of 4 to 6 feet and a peninsula that extends into the lake.

There are more pegs available. They have stocked the lake with fish, including carp weighing up to 17 pounds. They restocked it in 2020.

The Dove is a newer lake, so there are many ways to fish here. Summer anglers find that using a pole and waggler is effective.

Anglers use bait like pellets, sweetcorn, meat, maggots, and casters at Dove Lake. In summer, they also use prawns, Peperami, and meatballs.

Doughnut

The Doughnut, the oldest water on the Birch House complex, was first made for irrigation. The Doughnut is a circular lake with a central island.

The edges are four feet deep, while the rest of the water can reach up to seven feet deep.

People enjoy fishing at the Doughnut, a lake created for public use. But, people are currently using it as a stock pond, and it is not open for fishing.

Osprey

Osprey is more hidden than Kingfisher. Trees, bushes, and plants grow along the stream. It has a variety of pegs.

The pool is 3/4 acre and has 14 pegs. There is a shelf that extends 2 feet into the water before the banks drop to 6 feet in the middle.

Heron

Heron is like Doughnut and Osprey. It’s behind the fishing lodge. You can get there by walking on a footpath and crossing a bridge over Brailsford Brook.

Pegs 18, 19, and 20 used to be deep corners, but now they are shallow and covered in lily pads. It makes them popular in summer.
